Truth Or Dare

While on Twitter last night, I posted a question, “What’s The Biggest Goal U Have for 2010?”

I got many responses and they all were really good. I truly enjoyed hearing what others are trying to accomplish going into the New Year. Then I ate and went to bed. When I woke up this morning I checked my email, some other stuff and then went to Twitter like I normally do. I saw my last tweet response from the night before, and it was from fellow Twitterer and friend Patrick Allmond. He “dared” me to list my goals online, as well. This made perfect sense since he had already listed his own goals on his own site, Stop Doing Nothing, on this page here.

At that point “the writing was on the wall” so to speak. :) I immediately knew what my last blog post topic for 2009 was going to be, and I’m calling this one “Truth Or Dare”.

OR…How about Both? ;)

The Truth: What I’ve Learned

  1. All of my life experiences are one of two things: A Lesson or a Blessing.
  2. If I fail that means I’m trying, and that’s a success.
  3. I always know there is hope even when there seems to be no way out.
  4. My most powerful growth has come from my most powerless moments.
  5. There is no replacement for human touch.
  6. We all have the right to change our minds anytime.
  7. Fear is the most common decision making emotion.
  8. Patience is one of the greatest gifts a human being can have.
  9. Life is a path or a journey, not a choose your own adventure book.
  10. Character is what I do when I think no one is looking.
  11. I use money, I do not make money.
  12. Letting go leads to gaining control.
  13. There is a huge difference between self confidence and false pride.
  14. I cannot hear you when I am the one talking.
  15. I will never get to be perfectly humble no matter how much I practice humility.
  16. I can’t make everyone happy and I shouldn’t try to either.
  17. Results are all that matter.
  18. Nice guys often do finish first.
  19. Always know when to pick the right battles to win the war.
  20. What I do is not who I am, who I am is what I do.

The Dare: My Goals

  1. Spend more quality time with my family.
  2. Go to Church more and get back into growing my spiritual side.
  3. Organize my life better.
  4. Take real time to re-energize and rejuvenate.
  5. Take more time for reading.
  6. Unplug a bit more. (who am I kidding)
  7. Exercise and eat healthier, get back into running.
  8. Meet as many new people as I can.
  9. Grow existing relationships with people I like.
  10. Dedicate more time and focus on my blog.
  11. Layout a general blueprint for 2010. Not an outline.
  12. Do more service work out in the field itself.
  13. Find an unknown jewelry problem that needs to be solved.
  14. Be a better listener.
  15. Be where I’m at when I’m there.
  16. Take time to stop and enjoy the fruits of the labor.
  17. Pray More.
  18. Try to focus more on one thing at a time.
  19. Keep a much more open mind.
  20. Get more rest.

Well, that’s about it for ’09. I appreciate all the friendships I’ve had the privilege of forming this whirlwind of a year, and truly hope to grow them and make many more as time marches on.

Also, If you’re taking the time to read this I’d really like to say Thank You. One of the many things that I never take for granted is, what one of the many things we all seem to run out of, Time. I appreciate everyone and as always, respect and encourage your thoughts on this post down below. Hope you had a Great 2009. Happy New Year to You and Yours, and “Here’s to Hopefully an Even Better 2010.”

Respectfully,

DG

  • wow, thank U very much!
  • you are truly a very smary man and a blessed one.... you have offered me direction in what i do and i see you and your father as a mentor figure... good job DG
  • Thanks Andy, Appreciate That. Thanks for taking the time! :)
  • Paula
I really like that you put your goals out there for all to see. I think that my goals are hard to list because they continue to evolve with every new thing I learn & experience. Two years ago, I never would have dreamed of doing several of the things I did last year (#NYFW), but because I reached out, it became a reality. This year, I see expanding that, but I don't know where my lessons will take me yet. I guess I will just have to say that my goal is to be open to experiences - that seems to sum it up.
  • Love that mentality, Paula. So true and really is what I believe. They really can change quickly depending on life circumstances. In the end, I think all we can hope for and expect out of ourselves is to do our best and the rest wil take care of itself! Thanks for taking the time, It is Greatly Appreciated! :) _dg
  • Awesome goals Dan. I just found your blog and I'm glad that I did. I haven't written any of my goals down and I really need to get to it, don't I? Happy New Year. I wish you all the best as you work toward accomplishing your goals this year.
  • Thanks Very Much, Nicholas. I Appreciate You taking the time! :) Happy New Years to You, as well! Hope 2010 is a Great One! :)
  • DG! This post is very inspiring! I've met thousands of new people in 2009 and am thankful for the opportunity to have made so many "connections." However, there are always a handful of folks that stand out above the rest.....that strike you as genuine because of their kindness and sincerity.....and who make you want to be a better person just from knowing them. Your passion for life, integrity and humilty have placed you in that small group of friendships that I am most thankful for. You have accomplished a lot in your life so far....and after reading this post, it's obvious why. I know that God is going to use you in powerful ways to continue to bring goodness to the world! I'm fired up about the HUGE things that lie ahead in 2010! I'm honored to know ya my brother!
  • Hey HH! :) Means the world to me that you took the time to post here, thanks bro! I cannot tell you enough how excited I am to grow our friendship. I feel the exact same way as far as the huge quantity versus amazing quality of people we've both met. I am very hopeful that we will be lifelong friends. It's not everyday I get to meet great people, like you, my friend. Now that the Holidays are over and the New Year has begun, I know we'll both have much more time to get started on that! Talk to you soon, Man.. & Once Again, thanks SO Much for these kind words, very humbled by them and the feeling, which obviously goes without saying, is very, very mutual. Peace! _dg
  • awesome!
  • Thanks, Betty! Appreciate You taking the time! :) Happy New Year!

  • Thanks, Trey! Really Appreciate You taking the time to post. I look forward to meeting face to face, as well. Let's make it a point to this Year! Happy New Year and Hope to See You Soon! :)
  • My goal for 2010? To shake Steve Jobs' hand and say "thank you."
  • U just Made My Year! :) Thank U Sir!
  • ousooner44
It's a great list. I notice something obvious missing from your "Goals" list, friend. (as your friend.. i mean that box of reds) :)

Happy New Year, DG. Glad you are my friend.
  • The Most Important, Steph....but Yet, I'm not RED-E yet ;) 2011, cool? ;) #Thanks
  • I truly love the tone of this post. There are some individuals who have an online persona or facade. Sometimes it is immediately transparent, and sometimes it takes a little more time to see the cracks and chinks. Your writing and posting is authentic, and something I appreciate. I will be working on my own Truth or Dare list, as this is so much more meaningful than the traditional resolutions. I like the goal orientation perspective. Keep up the good work, please continue to tweet, blog, and otherwise share electronically, and I wish you the best 2010 can offer.
  • All I can say is Wow, Julie. I Really Appreciate you taking the time, an of course... the kind words. I very much so look forward to connecting with you more and reading your blog post, as well. Happy New Years and Hope Your 2009 was great and your 2010 is even better!!! :) Thank You!
  • EXCELLENT - great observations and several goals I need to think about adopting! but this is the one that spoke to me..."Be where I’m at when I’m there."

  • Thanks, Robyn! :) Really...Appreciate you taking the time! Happy New Year! Appreciate Your friendship we've developed this year! Truly Hope to continue it in '10 :)
  • Well said and what a great challenge for us all. Life is precious and one of the gifts we take most for granted. I'm honored to have met you this year. Seeing the integrity in your business and beyond has inspired me. I wish you all the best in 2010.
  • Thank You, Glynis....Likewise. Grateful to get to know you and so many people I never would have known if online interaction wouldn't have evolved into what is has. I appreciate your support and friendship immensely and very much so look forward to connecting more in 2010. Happy and Safe New Years to You and Your Family! :) See you in "10"
  • Great post, Daniel... and brave, too! :)

It takes intelligence to write your goals down, but it takes confidence to post them for the world to see.

2009 was an incredible year (pretty crazy, too!), and I look forward to making the most out of 2010.

Best wishes to you and your family!
  • Thank You, Brian. Truly means alot to me. :) As you already know, It hasn't been the easiest thins to "put it all out there" personally. But the more I do, the easier it becomes. Very Grateful for our longtime friendship and look forward to doing more together in 2010. Happy New Year to you and the whole Fam!
  • Excellent post, Dan. One of the things my mom said right before she passed away in October was "I always thought I would have more time." That impacted me more than just about anything else she ever, ever said to me. The past couple of months have been a time of great introspection for me as I've tried to get back into my daily life in Oklahoma. I'm glad to have met you and look forward to growing our friendship. I wish you and your family the very best in 2010
  • Thank You, Lauri. As you and I have already spoke, I will reiterate my respect and condolences. I am deeply sorry for your loss. What a powerful message she left and one that I think we all cannot hear enough. The small stuff is everything, I mean Everything. Life is so precious and as you know my wife and our family are going through a very sad time, as well. These are the moments that really give me insight and retrospect of all that really matters in the whole scheme of things. Our loved ones and Our lives'. Appreciate you taking the time, and cannot wait to grow our friendship even more.
