The Social Medium

I’ve been starving for some ideas on what to write about for my next blog post. Sunday night never disappoints. All I have to do is read and participate in Twitter #blogchat. Usually gets the job done. :)

Basically, the topic of the evening was “blogger burn out” in which I was very interested in because I really believed that I was burned out. Not just blogging, but keeping up with and/or thinking of new ideas for the many different sites I choose to participate in. In fact, I stated that I was “burned out” in #blogchat and got many responses in return on how to handle that. The ideas themselves got my brain thinking again and I soon after, realized that I was not burned out. I just thought I was. And it was my fault for thinking as such. I also realized that never do I have to be.

I’m calling this post “The Social Medium” and now will explain what it means to me.

What is “The Social Medium”

Creativity sparks content, content is needed to create and therefore creation persists. So, if we truly believe that we’re at some sort of stopping point, or mental road block then I believe all we have to do is tap into this thing I’m calling “The Social Medium”. I mean it’s really exciting and fascinating when you really think about it, to know at any given point and time we can talk to anyone  just about anywhere for ideas and suggestions. We no longer are sitting in the room alone if we choose not to be. The recommendations I received last night on how to deal with burnout was a very real thing and an idea, in itself, when you break it out. The topic ideas were great things that will all definitely work, but for me the fact that they are readily obtainable for any of us whom choose to inquire within is a topic within itself.  “The Social Medium” or in other words, the ability to communicate, network, and add value to each others’ lives is very hard to think of as anything else. It’s Social and It’s a Medium. I feel extremely fortunate to live in a day and age where we can all have this in our lives’ because the value of it personally and professionally is, and will continue to be, the most priceless source of information we will ever find. I have written posts on my thoughts of searching online for information versus communicating with other people in order to find the same results and I guess last night just proved to me, one more time, that this “internet stuff” we’re doing or whatever the many different things it has been and will change into being called over the years is simple. It’s just “The Social Medium”. That’s all.

Would love your thoughts on burn out and my posts in the comments down below.

Thanks!
DG

  • Great post, I wish I had this medium of information when starting my companies decades ago. It was a lonely world and not too many people to help. The incredible amount of info from Social Media has incredibly changed my life. I'm glad you found what helped - where there any steps or advice your had on getting out of bloggers block or did they just give you some new ideas?

  • Thanks Very Much, Chris... for taking the time. Mainly it was suggestions, some steps. Unplug and walk away for a bit. Many of the suggestions were to change it up and do video posts which I know you do very much :) but most recommendations stated were to include guest bloggers in the future. I've never done that but it does sound very interesting and maybe could be of great value and help.
  • Very well written. I can understand why you would feel some burnout with the websites you take care of!

You make an excellent point that the current framework (online social media) is the most recent form of connecting with people. The names and mechanics may change in the future but the concept will remain: networking and adding value to other's lives.
  • Thanks, Shawn! Appreciate Your Time and kind words! :) I think a little time off...starting tomorrow is going to do a world of good. Rejuvenate the mind and soul. Just got to remember, as RB stated above, to put the phone down. Thanks again, very much!
  • You are right, it is smart to put the phone down, but it is TOUGH! All over connectivity is a blessing and a curse.
  • Isn't that the Real Truth? :) #Smart & #Tough :)
  • Good post. It's nice knowing that inspiration is just a click or two away.
  • Thanks, Matt. Really Appreciate You Taking the time to read it. & So Very True...1, 2 click :)
  • Thanks for being honest. It is cool that you can be honest here.

I know the feeling, every couple of weeks I get tired of being "online" twitter and facebook and email and IM and ..... just overloads me and I need to take a break. It helps that a lot of the people I deal with online I can see in real life. It is nice to get outside and leave the phone behind.

    Keep up the posts!
  • Thanks RB. Very true and unavoidable I suppose :) I know that I need to re-evaluate and listen more when it's time. And I intend on doing as much of that as I can. Thanks for taking your time. As you hopefully already know, I respect your thoughts and opinions very much.... & PS. I haven't forgot about those guest blogger ideas. Just might hit you up, if you're open to it, after I get back from my trip :)
